About Agulhas National Park

Cape Agulhas is the southernmost tip of the African continent and the official dividing point between the Atlantic and Indian Oceans. The name Agulhas comes from the Portuguese word for “needles” referring to the jagged rocks and reefs that have claimed over 250 shipwrecks along this treacherous coastline. The national park protects a unique coastal ecosystem featuring rare fynbos vegetation one of the world’s six floral kingdoms.
The historic Agulhas Lighthouse built in 1848 is the second oldest in South Africa and a major landmark of the region.

How to Get There

By Air

Cape Town International Airport (CPT) is approximately 2.5 hours drive from Cape Agulhas via the N2
highway and R316 road.

By Road

From Cape Town take the N2 highway towards Caledon then follow the R316 through Bredasdorp to L’Agulhas village. The southernmost
point is well signposted throughout.
